Online recruiting is all about finding quality candidates and making connections with them. And social media is where people hang out online to express ideas and interact with each other. Just like in the real world, social media friends and contacts can be great sources of inspiration, friendship, support and opportunity.
They can also be annoying, toxic, time-consuming, needy and inappropriate as to your goals and/or job search. It’s bad enough when these connections cause problems in your personal life, but when they can have a negative impact on your career or job search, it’s time to take swift action.
Sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and a handful of others offer recruiters a tremendous opportunity to connect with candidates – many of whom would never be found through traditional sources.
Consider this reason to clear out your social media feeds:
If you find you are spending this much time on social media, it might as well be with the people who are most important to us or those who can help us achieve our goals. You can expand this idea to include spending time with the people and ideas that are most important to you and/or your goals.
Culling lets you focus your social media time on what—and who—you truly value. We already spend over two hours on social media every day, bouncing between Twitter and Facebook and Instagram and everything else we feel compelled to check.
You may as well use your time more wisely!
